Synchrotron Injector, Booster, 1968 - 1972
In 1968 some groups from MPS Division, such as the Magnet and Ejections groups, were transferred to the newly created Synchrotron Injector (SI) Division, part of the PS Department. Its mandate was the design and construction of a Synchrotron Injector ("Booster" or "PSB") to increase the injection energy of the Proton Synchrotron (PS). In 1972 the four-ring 800 MeV Booster was completed. In 1973 SI Division was dissolved by the decision of the CERN Council and the remaining groups were transferred to the MPS Division.

In 1966 until 1976, CERN adopted a departmental structure. MPS Division was integrated into the PS Department with the Synchrotron Injector (SI) and Nuclear Physics Apparatus (NPA) division. PS Deparmental was directed by P. Germain (1966-1969) and C. J. Zilverschoon (1970-1976) .
