In 2016, the CERN management changed and adopted a new organizational structure.

CERN activities were regrouped into four sectors:

• Accelerator and Technology (AT)
• Finance and Human Resources (FHR)
• International Relations (IR)
• Research and Computing (RC)

Site Management and Buildings Department (SMB) was grouped with the Industry, Procurement and Knowledge Transfer Department (IPT), Human Resources Department(HR), Finance and Administrative Processes Department (FAP) to form the new Finance and Human Resources Sector.

SMB was in charge of civil engineering, building construction and consolidation, and site services (cleaning, hostels, security, car pool, etc.).
