Arrangements with publishers

CERN has agreements with several publishers. Those agreements are detailed below. If you want to know where to easily publish in open access by discipline, please have a look at the following pages: Accelerators, Instruments, Physics, Other disciplines, Conference Proceedings.

Frontiers

All articles with at least one CERN-affiliated author are eligible for central CERN funding to cover the APC under this agreement. Before submission, please send a message to open-access-questions@cern.ch to start the administrative procedure for the payment.

Please make sure also that ‘European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN)’ is selected as institutional payer in the invoice section when submitting your article to Frontiers (this is particularly important if the CERN Author is not the submitting author). Frontiers will then verify the eligibility with CERN and, if confirmed, the APC (minus the discount) will be paid by CERN upon acceptance.

Most relevant titles:

IEEE

All articles with at least one CERN-affiliated author are eligible for central CERN funding to cover the APC.

After acceptance, the authors will be prompted to choose their copyright license. Before doing so, authors should contact @email for validation. When validated, normally within the same day, authors will get a reference to the CERN purchase order that will cover the author processing charge (OA fee). Please ensure that the fee is charged against CERN’s account 3000968089 - CH of the Copyright Clearance Center which is the body collecting the fees on behalf of IEEE.

Authors shall opt for the licence CC-BY-4.0.

Most relevant titles:

IOP

All articles with at least one CERN-affiliated author are eligible for central CERN funding to cover the APC under this agreement.

Journal of instrumentation is covered by a separate agreement. CERN-affiliated authors need to select the 'CERN open access option' or notify the journal staff during the submission process. Authors will not need to sign the copyright form, as CERN research articles are covered by a collective license agreement.

MDPI

CERN is member of the MDPI Institutional Open Access Program, and benefits from a 15% discount on the standard APC. All articles with at least one CERN-affiliated author are eligible for central CERN funding to cover the APC under this agreement.

Please follow the submission guidelines.

Most relevant titles:

Springer

All articles submitted to Springer journals with at least one CERN-affiliated author are eligible for central CERN funding to cover the APC

  • If the Corresponding author is a CERN Author, the article will be automatically caught by Springer and published open access. (See the Springer Author Journey)

    • If the corresponding author is not a CERN-affiliated author
    • If the article is published by a CERN collaboration with no CERN-affiliated author
